Celebrate the 115th anniversary of the Wright Brothers’ first flight by gathering at the exact location and exact time that it happened all of those years ago! Wright Brothers National Memorial Park admission is free that day, so enjoy the musical performances, tributes, and reenactments for free!
The observance begins with a patriotic musical prelude. The formal program will commemorate the Wrights’ achievement and pay tribute to Mrs. Katherine Johnson; no longer a hidden figure in the history of NASA and Aviation, Mrs. Johnson will be inducted into the Paul E. Garber First Flight Society Shrine. An aviation flyover will pay tribute to the Wright brothers at the documented exact moment of the Wrights’ first flight. Darrell Collins, NPS Historian, will preside over the wreath-laying ceremony to honor the Wright brothers and the witnesses of the first flight at the exact spot where the famous first flight occurred. Throughout the day, the park’s museum exhibits and activities provide interpretive talks in the Flight Room. The Visitors Center will open at 9:00 am.
