Top Outer Banks Events for the Week of September 24th

The beginning of Fall is an amazing time on the Outer Banks. We have plenty of great events to enjoy during the beautiful weather this season. Here are a few highlights for this week and upcoming weekend.

The Lost Colony Wine & Culinary Festival is on Saturday, September 29th at the Sound Stage Theatre in Manteo. The event’s Grand Tasting will showcase the island’s favorite restaurants and best chefs serving up their specialties to complement chosen wines. The festival will also feature a Craft Beer Garden to sample local brews, culinary & wine seminars, and live musicians performing throughout the day.

The Outer Banks Jeep Jam is also this weekend, with a kick off party on Friday the 28th, the main event on Saturday, and a wrap up ride on Sunday. Saturday features a full day of activities for Jeep enthusiasts from 10am to 7pm at the Soundside Event Site in Nags Head. There will be the Jeep Show-n-Shine contest, a Jeep parts swap meet with tons of vendors, raffles & giveaways, live music & DJs, food & beverages, and even activities for the kids.

The Jim Mulford Memorial Red Drum Fishing Tournament is on Saturday the 29th as well. Jennette’s Pier in Nags Head will host the annual tournament, rain or shine, from 7am until 1pm. Come try your luck at catching the longest Red Drum! Additional fall species of legal size will also be judged and there will be door prizes, giveaways, and awards for the winners.

If you’d prefer some serious exercise on Saturday morning, put your pedal to the medal at the Outer Banks Cycle Race. Choose from 3 race distances – 40k, 20k, or 8k, or try the 40k & 20 k together! The race takes place at North End Park in Manteo and is open to all cyclists with recreational riders welcome.

In addition to those events, there is also live music every night, and daily lunch & dinner specials to check out all across the Outer Banks. There’s even some great stand up comedy this week at The Comedy Club.

Top Outer Banks Events for the Week of September 17th

After a week of hurricane preparation and evacuations, most of the Outer Banks is back to business as usual with some big events and festivals on schedule this week and upcoming weekend.

The 2018 ESA Easterns Surfing Championship will be held Tuesday, Sept. 18th through Saturday, Sept. 22nd at Jennette’s Pier in Nags Head. The largest amateur surfing organization in the world hosts the season’s Grand Finale where the best amateur surfers on the East Coast compete for the championship. Get out to the beach and support our local surfers!

The 7th Annual Surfalorus Film Festival is coming to the Outer Banks from Thursday, Sept. 20th to Saturday, the 22nd. This 3-day celebration showcases the year’s hottest surf films and ocean documentaries with a series of outdoor sunset screenings and accompanying festivities. Each night is hosted by a different venue with music, refreshments, and of course, great movies!

The 8th Annual Outer Banks Pridefest is Friday, Sept. 21st through Sunday, Sept. 23rd. This is a 3-day gay pride festival, full of events and all inclusive for LGBTQ folks and their supporters and friends! In addition to paid events, the main pride festival Saturday afternoon is free with bands, local food trucks, merchant vendors, pride souvenirs, and nonprofit vendors at the Soundside Event Site in Nags Head.

There’s still time to get your tickets for the Sanctuary Vineyards CrabDaddy Festival on Saturday, Sept. 22nd, where the best Currituck wine and local beer will be paired with fresh seafood from our local waters. Your ticket includes All You Can Eat steamed blue crabs with slaw & hushpuppies, BBQ while it lasts, and a signature Crabdaddy wine glass. There will be local wine and beer sampling, live music, admission to the hayride, and a chance to compete in the Crabdaddy Olympics for cash and prizes.

There are also some great charity fundraising events taking place this week. The Outer Banks Brewing Station is hosting a concert on Thursday night starring Dixie Jade to benefit the SPCA Dare County Animal Shelter, an organization that provides quality care, rescue, reunification, and rehabilitation to all stray, homeless, and abandoned animals in Dare County. On Saturday, the Dare County Motorcycle Toy Run is bringing together hundreds of motorcycle enthusiasts and community members, riding to provide selected organizations with the necessary resources to make sure Dare County’s underprivileged children receive gifts on Christmas Day and during the holiday season.
