The Rogallo Kite Festival features 3 days of kite flying in honor of Francis Rogallo, NASA scientist and inventor of the flexible wing. As a brilliant aeronautical engineer, his inventions launched the sport of hang gliding and his designs have carried over into the development of stunt kites, power kites and hang gliders that are flown today.
The 37th Annual Rogallo Kite Festival will be held at Jockey’s Ridge State Park and Jockey’s Ridge Crossing and is free to the public. Kitty Hawk Kites and friends will be displaying some amazing 30-100 ft kites on top of Jockey’s Ridge State Park. Come fly a kite of your own, take part in free stunt kite lessons, kite coloring for the kids, or just sit back, relax and enjoy the spectacular kites in the sky. Events take place from 10am-4pm each day.
