Surfalorus Film Festival

Outer Banks events - surf film festival

Calling all surfers, filmmakers, nature lovers, water weirdos, cinephiles, and fans of everything aquatic to the 6th annual Surfalorus Film Festival! Surfalorus is a fun-and-sun filled cinematic synthesis of all things aquatic, showcasing the year’s hottest surf films and ocean documentaries with a series of outdoor sunset screenings and accompanying festivities. Presented by Cucalorus and the Dare County Arts Council, this three-day celebration of coastal North Carolina marine culture is coming to the Outer Banks on September 21-23, 2017! Join us every night at a different venue for music, refreshments, and, of course, great movies!

All three nights will include a raffle, for items like:
– A Mickey McCarthy shaped New Sun board
– A print from Daniel Pullen Photography
– Surf Lessons from Jeffery Meyers and an authentic Outer Banks seaglass necklace from Cloud Nine
– 3 Pegasorus Passes to the Cucalorus Festival in Wilmington, NC in November
– A skateboard from Outer Banks Boarding Company
– A gallery quality canvas print from Surfline’s Great Breaks Gallery

Raffle tickets are $1 each or $5 for 7. Raffle tickets can be purchased at the screenings and at Dare County Arts Council in Manteo as of September 1.

Thursday, Sept. 21
Jennette’s Pier, Nags Head
Doors open at 6:30pm; Screening starts at 7pm

– Acoustic Music by Outer Banks band Sensi Trails
– Refreshments from Surfin’ Spoon, and hot popcorn!
– Raffle!

Friday, Sept. 22
Dare County Arts Council, Manteo
Doors open at 6:30pm; Screening starts at 7pm

– Featuring a collaborative trailer for a 2018 documentary film honoring the late Mickey McCarthy, by Nic McClean
– Mixed Media Tribute Exhibit to Mickey McCarthy by Daniel Pullen, where part of the proceeds go to Betsy McCarthy
– Book Signing of “Legends of the Sandbar” by Chris Bickford
– Longboard exhibit curated by Steve Wise
– Food and local brew provided!
– DJ Ninja will be spinning records!
– Raffle!

– The Damn Truth plays the main stage inside the Brewing Station!
– Fire spinning by Panda Daniels!
